How to Prep for Laser Hair Removal (and Aftercare)

Laser hair removal is straightforward, but a little preparation goes a long way toward safe, effective results. Before your first laser hair removal session at Sakara Spa, here’s exactly what to do — and what to avoid afterward.

Before Your Appointment

Three simple steps set you up for success:

  • Shave the area about 24 hours before. The laser targets the follicle beneath the skin, not the hair on the surface, so a clean shave lets the energy work efficiently.
  • Avoid sun and tanning for two weeks prior. Recently tanned skin is more sensitive and affects how the laser responds. In sunny South Florida, plan accordingly.
  • Skip waxing and plucking. These remove the follicle the laser needs to target. Shaving is fine; waxing is not — for a few weeks beforehand.

What to Wear

Wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the treatment area. You’ll be in and out quickly — most areas take under 30 minutes.

Aftercare Essentials

Your skin may be slightly pink right after, like a mild sunburn. Keep it simple: avoid direct sun, apply a broad-spectrum SPF, skip hot tubs and intense workouts for a day or two, and don’t exfoliate the area aggressively. These small steps protect your skin while it settles.

Stay Consistent

Results come from completing your series — usually six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Following the prep and aftercare each time keeps every session working its hardest.
